Something that can be quite hard to understand is why it's called "Good" Friday when Jesus was practically scourged and ordered to carry the cross on which He would be crucified on and then put to death. It's difficult to see what's "good" about it, right?
Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:16-19, "For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." If Jesus really did die for good, and He did not rise up on the third day, it would not be something good to celebrate. In fact, it'd be the greatest tragedy in the history of the human race and the end of any hope the human race might've had for the future. There'd be nothing to live for. However, that was not in God's Plan. Jesus may have been tortured, mocked, and rejected by mankind, but He had the Power of a million angels encamped around Him. If He wanted to, He could've avoided all of that pain. But instead, He chose to obey God, and He sacrificed His Life for us, and because of that ultimate sacrifice, we are given the opportunity to live in Heaven with Him for Eternity. That is why we call it "Good Friday." On a day that seemed so tragic, one of the most incredible things happened to mankind: we were given the gift of Salvation by Christ Himself. He took the ultimate sacrifice!
